Chinese Cabinets in the China’s history could be traced back to three thousand years ago. But they were not the existing look as nowadays, they were more like chests where there were minimal furniture back then. Over time they were developped bigger and bigger with legs in Han Dynasty.
The existing form of Chinese Cabinet were developped in Song Dynasty and until Ming Dynasty more and more designs for different purposes were developped. For example, The stacking cabinets were developped as wardrobes for bedrooms. Ming Tapered cabinet is another great example, it is famous for its "A" shape, simplicity and elegance. Chiese Bookcase with all shelves or shelves with cupboard were developped for Study rooms. Displayed cabinets with all different designs were developped for living rooms to show treasure collectiables. Then Chinese cabinets became flourishing during Qing Dynasty. They became bigger and made in hard woods. Carvings, moisac, paintings, embossed, inserts, inlaids of auspicious symbols and Chinese charaters were brooming everywhere in China especially in Beijing and Canton. The more complicate the finishing of the cabinets were, the richer the owners were.
