Chair Stool & Bench
The evolution of seating in China starts with reed mats about a thousand years ago, and works its way up low platforms, then to portable stool, thought to be an import from normadic tribes to the north.
Chairs are perhaps the most sculptural of Chinese furniture forms. At best, they appear animated with spirit and balanced like three-dimensional calligraphy composed with brushstroke components. They are versatile enough to use from living room to bedroom to garden room. The adorable workers’ benches and stools can double up as side tables.
In Western culture, they have been called meditation chairs, that nomenclature doesn't really matter as much as design. It is called "striking modernity in the simplicity and balance of their lines, which explains why these chairs are so popular in Western homes.
